High Spirits in August

Posted on Posted in Nursing

Our August activity calendar is awash with the zest for life we all love here at The Hollies.

As always we have great fun exercising with Tanya, and we strengthen both body and mind with Mark’s Tai Chi classes.

As the greats of Tai Chi say, ‘If you mind is empty, it is always ready for anything’.

With our minds and bodies ready to take on the world, we venture out to take on the Gloucester Pig Trail. What is it you ask? Well if you’d like to experience the home to the first ever-pedigreed pig, as well as other rare breeds, then look no further than the Henson Pig Trail. Sure to be a fabulous day out.

As the last Bank holiday for the year approaches we make the most of it with The Thinking Theatre Company, hosted by Alex. The Total Drama Technique is a new non-medical programme of complementary drama-based brain training activities, which are both stimulating and fun.

All this Summer activity has definitely got our residents inspired and what better way to enjoy the sunshine than in the shade of this gorgeous hanging basket.

We support a large amount of training at the Hollies through our association with Stroud College, UWE and Rednock School. The top qualification is the Foundation Degree NVQ Level 5 in Adult Social Care. This is a 2 year course undertaken by would be care home managers.

Well done Mandy (our Housekeeping Manager) who joins Sarah Harris as the second Team Member to qualify this year.

While we’re enjoying all of our exciting activities and achievements this month, we leave you with this food for thought by Mark Twain,

“Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter”
