Covid-19 update

We would like to provide you with an update on the email and letters that you all received a couple of weeks ago regarding our Covid-19 status. We are absolutely delighted to report that both our resident and member of staff mentioned are both fully recovered and in good spirits. We think it is because of their determination to get better but also as far as our resident is concerned down to the excellent care and attention received by our wonderful teams of staff. With so much bad news about at the moment this is something excellent to shout from the roof tops!

Celebrations

Talking of roof tops, we held the most amazing party on the roof top garden at the Hollies yesterday. We were celebrating the 60th wedding anniversary (yes Diamond wedding anniversary!) of two of our residents. They were delighted to receive flowers, cards and a beautiful celebratory cake handmade by our kitchen staff. Another resident also had something to celebrate as it was her birthday – not being one for cake, the kitchen made her a most beautiful ‘cake’ made from fresh fruit. It looked gorgeous and the birthday girl thanked everyone for making her feel so special. So, we popped bottles of Prosecco, ate lovely cake and sang along with Phil on his guitar – even the builders on the adjacent building site looked impressed!

Family and friends

Obviously we are all missing friends and family at the moment and we have noticed that some residents are finding this particularly stressful. Some family members of one of our resident’s had bought them a life size toy cat which purrs when stroked. The resident finds this very comforting as she used to own a cat. We therefore have purchased an additional ‘toy’ cat and dog. These have been very well received particularly by residents living with cognitive impairment. It is lovely to see these residents smiling and enjoying these new additions to our team!

Thank you so much for all your support – we really appreciate it!

Keep on keeping safe!

To all our families and friends,

It was an absolute pleasure to work with the care team last week. They are amazing and all in good spirits.

One of our carers is expecting twin boys in August hot on the tail of another carer who had twin girls 10 weeks ago – we are still trying to find the chair they both sat in!

Sadly, on Thursday one of our much loved resident’s, a centenarian, died in her sleep. The Hollies staff came outside to line the drive and pay their respects as she left after living with us for many years.

On Saturday it was a beautiful sunny day and we took lots of residents outside to enjoy the sunshine and get a breath of fresh air. So many residents were excited about the VE Day Street Party on Sunday, but one resident lamented ‘I can’t go to a party with my hair looking like this……’. So, Sherry stepped in and took her to the hair salon and gave her a ‘Shampoo and Set’. She was delighted but word quickly spread and soon we were inundated with requests. Even the gentlemen joined in and it was lovely to see so many residents looking so well groomed and happy with the results of their visit to the ‘Vidal Sassoon @ The Hollies’ hair salon!

Photographs and an update from the Street Party to follow soon….

Thank you for the flowers, home made banner, doughnuts and other gifts to the staff – they are all so much appreciated. It is a privilege to care for your loved ones.

Keep on keeping safe!

14th April 2020

Closure until further notice

To all the families

Following our Covid-19 update letter last week I would like to thank you all for your kind wishes and comments, and reassure you that all residents and staff remain well. I hope I have answered questions that were raised and that you understand that some details are confidential and cannot be disclosed. We are following government guidelines and remain in close contact with the multidisciplinary teams for additional support and guidance.

The staff are working hard to maintain moral and high standards of professional care during a time which is very stressful for them (as I know it is for you as well). The residents are enjoying the opportunity to venture outside and were able to enjoy some sunshine over the Easter weekend,  including the newly completed roof garden area. Please continue using the Skype communication that Activities can organise.

We strive to keep your loved ones safe during this time, and would ask you, yourselves, to adhere to the government guidelines by staying at home, only undertaking  your allocated times away from home. The grounds of The Hollies are used by the residents as their opportunity to get out and enjoy some fresh air, hopefully more frequently as the weather gets warmer. It is their space, and their only chance to get outside at the moment.  When visitors arrive to drop of parcels etc, no matter how well meaning, they are inevitably presenting a risk of cross infection.  I know that it is painful and hard, but please, please resist the temptation to arrive at The Hollies. You have all been brilliant so far, and just a few more painful weeks will hopefully pull us (residents and staff) safely through this horrible pandemic. We are trying to keep this situation under control but can only do this with your help and collaboration.

If your loved ones need any essential items from you, we will contact you and organise where you drop the item off (e.g. at the bottom of the drive).

This week the Government will make further recommendations concerning the lockdown as they have to do this every twenty-one days. The consensus is at present that nothing will change. The Hollies will remain closed until further notice.

Thank you again for your thoughts and wishes, and together we will pull through.

With best wishes,
